Several Injured in Hit-And-Run in Downtown Portland

Oregon police have made an arrest following a horrifying hit-and-run crash that injured several young women on the campus of Portland State University Friday morning. Live video images from the scene show cops taking an older white man who was driving a dark colored SUV with damage to its hood into custody.

The vehicle matches the description of the one seen racing away from the Portland State University campus. Police have not made an official statement regarding the arrest yet.

Witnesses say the SUV was moving at a high rate of speed when it drove up on the sidewalk. Portland police officer Chris Burley says two of the women were seriously injured.

"At this time it is my understanding that two of the injured have serious, life-threatening injuries, and one has serious, but what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries," said Burley.

When Burley was asked by reporters if he believed the incident to be an act of terror, he said it was too soon to tell.

"Again, very early in the investigation," said Burley. "Investigators are going to be out here throughout the day contacting witnesses, victims, and gathering information."

Police have not determined a motive for the crash.
