PURPLE HEART BRIDGE OPENS IN DEFIANCE

Dozens of veterans took the first steps across the Purple Heart Bridge in Defiance, opening the new span over the Maumee River this week.The former Clinton Street bridge is the newest structure of ODOT’s 14,000 bridges in Ohio.Great Lakes Construction was the contractor for the span, accomplishing a feat many thought was impossible during the spring, when heavy rains held up the project for weeks.Ryan Mack is a hometown boy from Defiance County, and a Purple Heart recipient, and current Defiance County Commissioner.He spoke at the event about what it means to be recognized as a Purple Heart veteran.
