A couple’s wedding ceremony was cancelled, so they did something truly selfless.
Lovebirds Fiona and Adam Gordon of East Yorkshire, England, were expected to tie the knot last Saturday (March 21) but had their marriage plans cut as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. So instead of disposing the hundreds of meals they ordered through a catering company, the duo had the food delivered to hospital workers aiding those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
With help from his catering company Galloping Gourmet, Tony Norris recruited the veterans’ charity Hull4Heroes to help serve over 400 hospital staff at the Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. The organization had paid for the meals, leaving the duo with credit to go toward planning their wedding for a later date. However, the Gordons decided to marry in front of just two witnesses rather than the 120 guests they’d initially invited.
"That would have been a lot to go to waste,” Fiona told The Independent. "The reaction we have had for doing this is absolutely amazing, but of course the real heroes here are the charity workers.”
Of the thoughtful gesture, Hull4Heroes founder Paul Matson told the outlet he and his staff were “choked up” by the situation, adding, "Everyone was delighted, even the head of the hospital came out and thanked us, so we made everyone happy and that's exactly what we wanted to do."
As of Friday morning, more than 14,500 people have been infected with COVID-19 in the United Kingdom and 759 have died.
