On the state of our world... and our discourse...

I'm going to say some things tonight which aren't as tasty as a big bowl of mac and cheese...

It hasn't been a beautiful day in our neighborhood for a while.

We're divided.

There is no middle ground.

There's no pop score anymore. No potential score. There's love. There's hate. FAVE. NEG. Anything in the middle... is deemed wrong.

I don't know about you... but I think that's wrong. And I've over with common ground... being wrong.

Won't you be my neighbor?

You know, for the last two or three weeks, I've tended to my neighbor's packages. I know them. Not super well, but I know that they are my neighbors and because of that - and because we're Texans - I did what neighbors do... I looked out for them, their home, their packages and more while they were away.

For the last few years, since I've been getting up early, I've been picking up my neighbor's trash can, and I've taken her newspaper, and I've set 'em up in front of her door so in the morning, all she has to do is open the door, pull her stuff in, and go back to enjoying her morning.

Why?

Hello, Neighbor.

There was a time, not too long ago, when we were American neighbors. We weren't in this party or that party or of this ilk or that ilk.

I believe in the party of Lincoln. But I believe in the party of Kennedy. I believe that out of many... we are one.

I believe we need to get back to that.

It starts when we realize that in our American Neighborhood... it can again be a beautiful day. We can take care of one another. We can look out for one another. We can care about people we may not agree with... but with whom we love because they... are one of us. They live on our block. They live next door. In the next unit.

Unity.

We're past the idea of "it is what it is" anymore. What it IS... is, as President Ronald Reagan said, is "a time for choosing."

I won't tell you who to choose. I'll get lectured, in trouble or whatever...

But I will say this: It is time to choose. Listen to your heart. Your soul. Tune out the BS. The rhetoric. The noise. The news. The manipulated and the obviously fake. Tune out the lies and the liars who tell these lies.

Tune out what you know... isn't who you are.

Think about where you are.

Where your family is.

Where we all might be headed.

What might be most important. What resonates. Let your inner YOU speak to you. It WILL show you the way and it WILL lead you to make the best decision for you... regardless of what lever you pull (Pennsylvania I see you) or or what oval you fill in (mail in ballots I see you).

The engaged you... inside of you.. will lead you. That's where you need to go. How you need to vote. So get it done.

Our country. Our collective mental health. Our idea of what we can be... is counting on you.

I'm Toby Knapp and I've approved this message.
