OHIO RAIL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION APPROVES GRANT TO UPGRADE NW OHIO RAIL

A grant of more than $687,000 will help improve rail service in northwest, and hopefully lead to more economic development. The grant was approved by the Ohio Rail Development Commission, with the upgrade likely to enhance track conditions between Napoleon and Defiance. Some relay rails and other materials will be added to the project. The condition of the track prohibits some cars from traveling the route, and others are kept at minimum speeds. Last year, the Ohio Rail Development Commission provided funds to help make improvements in the section between Woodburn, Indiana and Defiance. The state rail commission reports, a number of businesses along the route have been waiting for the upgrade to begin expansion projects.
