The World's Most Expensive City Is….

For people living in major US cities like Manhattan, San Francisco and Los Angeles, it ain't cheap. "The Economist" Intelligence Unit has just released its list of the world’s priciest cities. No city in the US cracked the top 10, proof that other people in the world pay an insane amount of money to live, too.

The world's most expensive city to live is Singapore, followed by Paris at #2, Zürich at #3, Hong Kong and #4 and and Oslo rounding out the top 5.

New Yorkers, don't feel left out. You inhabit America’s costliest city, and rank worldwide at #13. Five years ago, though, NYC only ranked #27 worldwide, so the steep increase in the rankings is a reflection of escalating costs. The next US city was Los Angeles, which ranked #14.

The 10 Most Expensive Cities in the World

1. Singapore

2. Paris, France

3. Zürich, Switzerland

4. Hong Kong, SAR, China

5. Oslo, Norway

6. Geneva, Switzerland

7. Seoul, South Korea

8. Copenhagen, Denmark

9. Tel Aviv, Israel

10. Sydney, Australia

It should be noted, The Economist determined the costliest cities by comparing the prices of basic commodities like the cost of a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine, a pack of 20 cigarettes or liter of gasoline.
