For this review, I'm really not sure where to begin. I love movies that make you think immediately after watching. I watched this film on Friday night and I haven't really stopped thinking about the story since. While parts of the movie (obviously) are fictional. it all feels so real. I mean it takes place in current day, with seemingly normal people and a lesser known cast of names.
This thriller has a story that will chill you to the bone, while commenting on the race issues we face to this day. Chris Washington (played by Daniel Kaluuya) reluctantly goes to meet his girlfriend, Rose's (Allison Williams) family. As an interracial couple, he worries about how her parents will handle/treat him. While all seems normal at first, this story dives quickly into it's plot. Things aren't normal with Rose's family... With a cast brilliantly put together, this movie isn't for the faint of heart.
I can see why Jordan Peele's film has received so much praise over the last year. It's incredible. It leaves you on the edge of your seat scene after scene. While all the same time, terrifying you that night with its realism. Once again, if you're not a fan of thrillers you'll struggle through this film. I think Get Out will do just fine come March 4th at the Academy Awards.
I'll continue to get through the movies getting major academic praise by award time next month. With 8 movies on the Best Picture list, I have two down and six to go. I'm afraid I have my work cut out for me.-@JoshNagy981
