As most people get ready to celebrate love next week, a new poll finds that most Americans are actually happy in their relationships.
Dating site eHarmony just released their “The Happiness Index: Love and Relationships in America” report, which finds that 64% of Americans say they are “very happy” in their relationship, with only 19% of people unhappy to some degree. Millennials between the ages of 25 and 34 tend to be the happiest in their relationship, as are people who live in big cities.
Overall, more and more couples are sticking with relationships even if they aren’t perfect, with the average length of a relationship being 18 years, and that number going up to 36 years for those over 65.
Part of that happiness could be because these days folks have no problem showing their affection for one another. Overall, 68% of those polled say “I love you” on a daily basis, while 65% kiss on the mouth for a second or two each day, and 72% will hold hands while taking a walk.
Of course sex is also a big issue in relationships, and it turns out 50% of Americans say they are happy with their sex lives. What’s more, three quarters of the happiest people in America say they have sex weekly, but regular sex doesn’t always equate to relationship happiness. In fact, 62% of those who say they are extremely unhappy, still report having sex daily or weekly.
