Do you feel like when you go on vacation you are surrounded by lots of families with kids? Well, there’s a good reason for that. According to the AAA, 88-million Americans plan to take a family vacation this year, with Millennials the generation most likely planning a family getaway (44%), versus Generation X (39%) and baby boomers (32%).
Family plays a huge role in a lot of people’s vacations, with 27% of folks saying they are planning three or more family trips this year, an increase of 12% from last year.
Overall, road trips are still the most popular form of family vacation, with 64% of families hitting the road for their trip, although international travel is also big this year, with 35% of families heading outside the U.S., an increase of 9% from just two years ago. As for the most popular international destinations, they include:
- Cancun, Mexico
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
- Montego Bay, Jamaica
- Rome, Italy
- Dublin, Ireland
As for what most people are looking for on their family trip, 73% want to go somewhere they’ve never been before, while 61% will be haded to the beaches and mountains, 59% want a chance to sightsee, and 56% want a chance to relax. Yeah, cause they’re gonna get that last one with the kids in tow.
