ONE MORE TIME....IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCH LAST NIGHT'S EPISODE, DON'T GO ANY FURTHER.
(okay these new opening credits though)
After almost two years, Winter is here! I looked through some reactions last night on Twitter before going to bed and I think people may have missed the target on last night's season 8 debut.
"It was slow," "YOU ONLY HAVE 6 EPISODES AND THIS WAS IT FOR 1?" "We already know all of this, I need more," were some of the reoccurring themes I saw.
Go back and look at the first episode of each season. It's merely used to set the table for what's to come. Many deaths or major points to a season, don't really happen here.
It was great to see so many parallels to season 1 in this final season. Arya back in Winterfell and allowing the little one to watch the Unsullied walk into Winterfell. It had vibes to her watching the King's army at the beginning. Arya and Jon reuniting. Arya and Jon had a special relationship we didn't get to experience before he left for the wall. Even Bran and Jaime ending the episode.
Daenerys and Sam realizing their terrible connection was huge. Watching Sam react to learning of his father's death, then his brother's...just gut wrenching. The most important part of the episode was Sam and Jon reuniting and Jon discovering that he is a Targaryen. The true King. Clearly, he had no idea what to do with that info. He's bent the knee to Daenerys.
