"Granny Pod" is a new term that's recently become popular thanks to the fact that AARP estimates about 23 million Americans take care of their elderly parents.
So, what is a "Granny Pod?" Instead of physically living with your kids in the same household, these tiny homes are more like guest houses with lots of high-tech medical resources. They're designed to be installed in the backyard and even hook up to the main home's existing sewer, water and power lines. The cost will run you around $100,000 (give or take).
The Granny Pod is essentially the size of a big master bedroom with a living room space, kitchenette and a bathroom. There are also options wheel chair accessibility options.
These tiny homes are actually called "Med Cottages," but like we said...Granny Pod just seems a bit more chipper. You can check out a few styles here.
