Miley Cyrus is recovering after undergoing vocal cord surgery, PEOPLE reports. The diagnosis was initially discovered when the pop star was hospitalized last month for tonsillitis. Sources say she unknowingly had been suffering from the issue for years. The 26-year-old was told she needed to have surgery before the end of the year, and recovery would involve several weeks of silence. The "Slide Away" singer, who had been working on new music, will have to take a break from recording and performing.
A source close to Cyrus assures she's “doing great and will be back and better than ever early next year.”
A few weeks ago, the singer revealed she was on vocal rest via her Instagram story.
Though the recovery process may be less than ideal, Cyrus has a good support system. Her boyfriend Cody Simpson already proved he's a good nurse when he serenaded her the last time she was hospitalized. The couple's relationship got serious quickly after being spotted making out last month. Since then, the two have moved in together and the Australian singer's sister Alli Simpson recently revealed that "it seems like they're very happy and very in love." Cyrus' new romance follows a short yet intense relationship with Kaitlynn Carter and separation from husband Liam Hemsworth.
