The American public's opinion on the Supreme Court has soured following the leak of a draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade. A poll conducted by Marquette Law School poll found that 54% of Americans disapprove of the job that the Supreme Court is doing.
That is a sharp reversal from the numbers in March, which showed that 54% of respondents said they approved the job the High Court was doing.
The poll results were split down partisan lines, with Democratic support for the court tumbling while Republican support increased slightly. In March, 49% of Democrats approved of the job the Supreme Court was doing, but that support plummeted to 26% in May.
Meanwhile, Republican support rose from 64% in March to 68% in the latest poll, which was conducted one week after the draft opinion was leaked.
The poll found that Americans' opinion on Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that protected the right of women to have abortions, remained mostly unchanged, with 69% of respondents in favor of upholding the ruling and 31% who support striking it down.
