May 4th is Intergalactic Star Wars Day! This day is the one that Star Wars fans everywhere can celebrate the fact that the Force is strong, indeed. The Star Wars franchise has generated thousands of related items, from movies, cartoons, video games, comics, books and memorabilia etc.
According to Starwars.com, the earliest reference to May 4th actually comes from 1979, when author Alan Arnold was chronicling the making of the second film in the franchise (but, in order of the storyline, film 5), “The Empire Strikes Back.”
For Star Wars fans, May the 4th kicks off a season of celebration, but then, they know that the month of May has always been important. After all, the six live-action movies of the Star Wars saga debuted in May (starting with the original “Star Wars” film, which opened on May 25th, 1977). The month of May also includes George Lucas’ birthday (May 14th, 1944), and has been the traditional start date of the popular Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World Resort.
