When it comes to good health, getting quality sleep is a highly unvalued commodity. A lack of good sleep and firm sleep schedule can increase your risk of fun things like diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. To find out which cities were sleepiest, Men’s Health took a look at the 100 largest cities in the United States. Bad habits like smoking and a lack of physical movement were factored in to how many people reported getting less than seven hours of sleep a night, and then data was pulled from the CDC and County Health Rankings.
When the numbers came back, these were the top ten cities in need of a serious nappy:
Philadelphia – They go to bed just before midnight, are “highly inactive,” and the city has some of the worst light pollution in the country.
Toledo – They hit the bottom level of “health behaviors related to sleep.”
New Orleans – They’re second lowest in the “health behaviors” department.
Detroit – 42% get less than seven hours, and they’re third worst in “health behaviors.”
Cincinnati – Ranks in the bottom ten for “insufficient sleep.”
Lexington-Fayette – The second of three Louisiana cities in the top ten.
Baton Rouge – Chimes in with one of the highest scores for inactivity.
Las Vegas – It’s a round-the-clock city…with round-the-clock sleep problems.
Jacksonville – Poor obesity and smoking scores played a role here.
Providence – A lack of activity and less sleep than recommended put them in the ten-spot.
